Racing Rules - Safety First
Back
RMM has a highly-trained and dedicated group of race officials -- this year headed by board member, Dick Sawyer. As our Technical Delegate, Dick provided us with an updated set of rules that will keep our races fair and SAFE! Please take a moment to read this one-page document for the latest information.

- All competitors must hold a USSA masters and/or competition license. This enables you to benefit from the supplemental insurance coverage (primary medical insurance is a requirement for USSA membership). A one-time temporary license is available for $25 for consecutive race-day events.
- Helmets manufactured for ski racing must be worn for all USSA races (DH, SG, GS and Slalom).
- Course inspection methods will be announced and posted by the Jury. No warm-up turns (except for SG, see note #4) or gate bashing in the course during inspection. No free or fast skiing in the race arena. If possible, racers will be allowed to free ski the course in non-stop intervals, controlled by the start referee up until the time the course is closed for inspection.
- Official training for SG events will consist of a timed training run as allowed by USSA Masters Competition Guide. The training run will be accomplished according to race day conditions and may be treated as a race for result purposes, upon recommendation of the Jury. For DH, a mandatory timed training run is required.
- Bibs must be carried during inspection and a racer must produce his or her bib when requested by a race official.
- Late starts will be allowed for racers who miss their start, the racer will be inserted next to last within their class or, if necessary, within the next class at the earliest convenience.
- Completion of a double-pole gate occurs when both ski tips and both feet pass through the imaginary line form the inside and outside pole (even when a gate is missing). For single pole SL, completion of a gate occurs when both ski tips and both feet cross the gate line – the imaginary line between one single turning pole and the next single turning pole.
- Special RMD Masters rules allow a competitor to restart if they loose a ski by the first gate and also allow a racer to finish a race on one ski if the other is lost in the last gate.
- Upon racer interference from an obstruction (broken gate, overcoming another racer, course maintenance, etc.), the athlete must exit the course immediately and request a provisional re-run. The validity of the request will be determined by a Jury member upon request. Any Jury member may grant the provisional rerun, and the validity of the provisional rerun will be determined by the Jury.
- A no-smoking rule will be enforced in the start and finish areas of the race course.
- All officials of RMD are empowered to enforce a warning system for racers who violate the rules, repeat offenders will suffer penalties ranging from running next to last to official sanctions, if necessary.
